Stories from the Sanctuary

Changing hearts and minds...

I had another great day on William and Mary's college campus. Everyone was so nice to me and excited to see me. And one thing that struck my little piggy ears the most was when someone asked how intelligent pigs are. My dad and sister Rousseau explained how we pigs are said to be smarter than dogs and on the same level as Chimpanzees and Dolphins. The person responded (roughly - I was a little distracted by eating grass, but this is the main idea), 'It is so awful to think what humans are doing to pigs in order to make food out of them.'
And that is a repeating theme to my encounters with people. They seem to come to the conclusion that after meeting me, the idea of eating a pig starts to not make much sense any more. And this is only reinforced by the fact that pigs are so intelligent and are capable of feeling and expressing so many emotions and desires. I hope that my adventures in the world help pigs that were not so lucky as I was to be adopted into a family with my momma pig living with me. I hope someday that all pigs will be free, happy and loved.  (And my family and I have that same wish for all animals since intelligence level shouldn't matter in whether those animals deserve to live happy and free.)
