Ryan Phillips- President (Cow Selfie King)
How did an Indiana boy who had never spent time with a cow prior to the age of 38 end up devoting his life to caring for rescue farm animals? By studying history… and having a passion for justice. Before managing Life With Pigs, I got my Bachelors in History at William and Mary and my Masters in Education at the University of Pennsylvania. And how did this prepare me to become the self-proclaimed Cow Selfie King? It taught me the history has been a constant pursuit of justice for all. And I venerated the men and women who dedicated their lives to fighting human slavery. And I always felt so inspired by people like Frederick Douglas and Charles Sumner. I wanted to be part of something as powerful and meaningful. And after watching Food Inc. and Earthlings, it was clear to me that the injustice facing farmed animals was a cause sorely in need of voices.

And while I’ve done many things to try to be a voice for animals, nothing has felt has meaningful or as powerful as getting to share the lives and stories of the animals who I call my family. I can say with complete sincerity that I have both human and non-human children and that my best friends include a gorgeous fiancé and co-sanctuary manager Mallory, a 1000 lbs. puppy named Jenna, my two human children Christian and Rousseau, and a bossy pig named Charlotte. My life would be incomplete without the animals that share my home with me and despite the endless work and exhausting days, I look forward to every moment of my life here at Life With Pigs.
Mallory Phillips - Vice President, Operations (Rescue Ginger)
So, I had a crush on a guy I saw on the internet hugging on his cow. And I never imagined I’d end up spending my life with him considering I had no plans to do much more than just watch from a far and think how nice it would be to join his sanctuary family! But he didn’t ever post about looking for a rescue ginger. And so, I felt resigned to the reality that I could just dream someday of finding someone like him. Plus, I had lived in Arizona my whole life and his sanctuary was in Virginia.
It wasn’t until poor Sophie, the neglected calf from Braglio Farms was stolen away from Life With Pigs by the police and returned to her abusers that I even thought of reaching out. I couldn’t just stand by as poor Sophie suffered. I immediately devoted my time and energy to helping to coordinate an effort to help Life With Pigs get Sophie back. |
And it was through these efforts that I ended up in contact with Ryan as we both spent countless hours thinking of every way we could help get Sophie home safely. During this time it became clear that Ryan and I were a perfect match. We couldn’t have found more perfect soulmates if we could design them ourselves. And, he had the most adorable and lovable animal family that I knew I’d love to be a part of.
As luck would have it, Life With Pigs needed a Rescue Ginger and I was happy to apply for the position! So I packed my bags and in a few months was living on the other side of the country where they have trees instead of cacti. But one ginger is never enough and shortly after joining the Life With Pigs family, we added Maisie as Rescue Ginger #2. And now I’m engaged to my best friend and soulmate and getting to live the fairytale of being the parent to the coolest bunch of animals a girl could ever dream of having. Dreams really do come true and this dream just keeps getting better.

Rachael (Professional Bird Botherer)
What is a bird brother you might ask? It is someone who comes over and does a lot of not fun things to make sure all our birds are healthy and happy. Our professional bird bothered Rachael does things like treat wounds, soak feet, and clean out infections. In return she gets pecked, wing flapped to the face, and other less than grateful responses from her beloved birds but she doesn’t mind. Why? Because she loves them all so much. But in the end, all the birds know that they have the best bird bother watching out for them and loving them. And even if they don’t show it while being bothered, they love her too.
