Jacquelyn (Jackie) the One-Eyed Toad
Jacquelyn, or Jackie as she is known, was found in the road near the sanctuary. After moving her out of the way, she hopped right back into the road (which is a dangerous place for a toad!) and so she was picked up and taken to safety. We immediately noticed that she only had one eye, which makes surviving on her own an extra challenge.
So we moved her into the sanctuary where she now enjoys burrowing in her cave, soaking in her tub, lounging on her heated rock, and climbing on leaves, in total safety.

Milton the Porch Toad
Sir Milton, as he has since been knighted, showed up on our porch over the summer and hung around us every evening. So, we did the only sensible thing and built him a house and a garden! Well, once you give a toad a mailbox he is going to want to get some mail. Luckily we put out an ad for penpals for Milton and the letters started coming! Milton now has international friends, including one from the U.K. who informed Sir Milton of his knighthood.
*Not Currently In Residence* If you would like to send Sir Milton some correspondence, please mail your letters to: Attn: Sir Milton Life With Pigs 195 Maxton Ln Williamsburg, VA 23188 |
Frog Pond
|
After Milton arrived, we quickly started researching toads and learned that every spring, they return to their mating pond. Well, the nearest pond was not so near and we thought it best to ensure Milton had a pond nearby where he wouldn't have to travel far come spring!
Once we built the pond, a whole host of friends moved in. Frogs love ponds year round and it quickly became the most happening place for the sanctuary amphibians! Whether floating on a lily pad, cuddling a friend between some rocks, sunning on a log, or just diving through the water, the frogs love their new spot and so do we! |
