The Turkeys

Quincy

Picture
Quincy is our loyal protector and guardian of the sanctuary. The roosters might think they are the big guys in the yard, with their loud crowing, but those in the know, know Quincy is the toughest bird on the block. Quincy came to Life With Pigs when he was a tiny little poult. It didn't take long for us to realize he was something special. As the only boy, Quincy protects his girls, and makes sure to keep an eye on every new person who comes into the yard. But don't let that tough face fool you. Quincy is a lover, not a fighter!

Freddie

Picture
Freddie arrived at Life with Pigs Sanctuary as a tiny little poult along with her two sisters and protector, Quincy. Freddie has always stood out as the smallest of the turkeys. But what she lacks in size, Freddie makes up for in personality! Of the three turkeys, Freddie has always been the most curious, and the first to attempt to approach the strange humans. The turkeys are very shy and prefer to be left on their own, but if they think that a human might have a treat for them, they will follow you all over the yard! Freddie and her sister Tia are so smart, they learned that when the squirrels climb in the mulberry tree, they drop sweet, ripe mulberries to the ground. Its so much fun to watch the turkeys come running to get a tasty treat!

Tia

Picture
Tia arrived at Life With Pigs with Quincy, Harriet, and Freddie back in 2018. She was one of the first rescues after we opened. And she was also one of the first to try and escape. Many days Tia could be found fly/jumping over the fence and going off to explore the neighborhood. Fortunately, she has settled in and no longer attempts to go much farther than a little bit past the gate. She can be quite the talkative little turkey. Tia makes her presence known around the yard as she peeps every time an invader flies overhead. In fact, she is probably responsible for setting off the alarm that alerts all the birds in the yard that someone is flying overhead and to take cover. Usually it is just a bluejay or a crow, but should a hawk or eagle ever come our way she will be quick to warn her entire animal family.
