If you’ve been following Betty’s story, you know she’s always been a sweet, curious turkey who loves to explore and practice flying with her brother Rachel and her mom Tia. But over the past month, we noticed something unusual: Betty kept squinting her right eye, almost like she was giving us a secret little wink. We tried everything we could with the help of our vet, multiple exams and medication, but the squinting continued. So, Betty got a referral to Animal Eye Care of Virginia Beach, where she made history as the first turkey patient ever seen at their office! The eye specialist examined Betty carefully and found that, functionally, her eye is just fine. Tests for bacteria and fungus also came back negative. That was a huge relief - but still doesn't answer the question of what is causing this. In case there was something that didn't come up on the test, Betty is now getting antibiotic eye drops and an ointment to treat any lingering irritation and inflammation.
Around here, we’ve started calling her Blinky Betty, but we hope that nickname won't last much longer! We’re so grateful she’s getting the care she needs, and we hope she can go back to regular ol' Betty soon.
