After two months of chelation therapy due to zinc poisoning, we got some concerning news about Betty. Her zinc levels are still much higher than we would like them to be. The good news is that her anemia has resolved and she seems to be feeling well overall. Her vet would like to monitor her for a while and give intermittent medication to see how she does, retesting her periodically. The only other option would be surgery if she still has the ingested metal inside of her - which of course we would prefer to avoid if possible.
So we are in a hopeful wait and see phase currently with Betty. She is such a sweet girl and the perfect patient, we just wish that we could put all of this behind her and us!
